WHY A LAW FACULTY
IN BURSA AND IN ULUDAG UNIVERSITY?
Bursa is the fourth biggest city in Turkey. Population of Bursa in
2007 is 1.593.243. (http://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bursa). Bursa is
one of the important centers for trade and business in Turkey. Bursa
is first capital of Ottoman Empire. Bursa is a history and culture
city. Bursa, geographically, is one of the richest city in Turkey.
Geographically, the most distinguished features such as mountain,
sea, savanna and lakes are in Bursa. The things make important the
distinguished cities in the world are their mountains, lakes etc.
While some distinguished cities are famous with their mountains,
others with their seas. The thing makes famous the city is the
running river in the city or sea or lake which the city founded on
its shore. The interesting thing that all these features are in
Bursa. The most beautiful mountain in Turkey, the Uludag
Mountain(Great Mountain), is in Bursa. The most two beautiful lake
Ýznik and Uluabat is in Bursa. Also the most beautiful coasts of
Marmara Sea are in north of Bursa.Bursa has 277 km. coastal length.
Not need to mention that Bursa is the Spa center.
On the other hand, Uludag University(U.U.) is one of the biggest
universities in Turkey. In term 2007-2008, in two-year degree,
undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate programs, Uludag
University has 44.048 students, 751 academic staff, 1458 other

By the way, it must be mentioned that, Uludag University had great
breakthrough in recent years. Uludag University is one which
participates the European Education Programmes, makes exchange of
student and acedemic staff, a participant of The European Credit
System(ECTS), qualified to give Diploma Supplement Label(http://www.uludag.edu.tr/diploma_brochure.pdf).Uludag
University is a member of The European University Association (EUA)
(http://www.eua.be/index.php?id=72).
Uludag University is one among the 17 Turkish Universities that
participate the (EUA Institutional Evaluation Programme (IEP).
Uludag University is a European University qualified as ‘evaluator’
in this programme. Uludag University had several agreements with 84
University in 21 Country, in related with the programmes Erasmus,
Socrates and Leonardo programs. Uludag University send 348 student
and 70 academic staff with the programme Erasmus in 2007. The
quantity of the donation of scholarship granted to the Uludag

In the Uludag University, other than Faculty of Law, there are also
Faculties of Medicine, Economics&Administration,
Engineering&Architecture, Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture,
Education, Theology, Arts&Science and Fine Arts. It is very natural
to be established a law faculty in such a great University. It is
beyond doubt that with more than 40 thousand student and 6 thousand
staff U.U. establishes the Faculty of Law and developpes.
Finally, we must mention that, it may be said there are two
prestigious faculty in a university. One is the Medicine School, the
other is the Law School. Faculty of Medicine was established in
1970. Until now, not establishing the Faculty of Law was shortage.
This shortage is removed by establishing the Faculty of Law.
