Uludag University (U.U.) Faculty of Law is established in the campus of Sunigpek-Asım Kocabıyık. In the Gemlik Campus, other than the Law Faculty, there is also U.U. Gemlik Vocational High School.

GEMLİK

Gemlik is 32 km far way from Bursa, also 37 km far away from Yalova. Between Yalova - İstanbul (Yenikapı) is 48 km and can be taken in 1hour 10 minute by sea. Also from Pendik to Yalova takes 45 minute. From İstanbul Yenikapı to Bursa Güzelyalı takes 75 minute by sea. (http://www.ido.com.tr/index.cfm?page=SubPage&kapsam=223&textid=969&ln=TR)
As it can be seen that Bursa is very reachable not only from Bursa,but also from İstanbul.

Gemlik is founded seaside of the Gemlik Gulf, also has a heavenly nature. At the same time, Gemlik is a center of industry, trade and agriculture (olive). Gemlik center population is 78.945 (2007). It must be mentioned that it may be an advantageous rather than disadvantageus for Gemlik to be not so big. In fact, the most famous universities in the world are being founded in comparatively smaller cities. For example, Oxford’s population is 149.000, Cambridge’s 110.000, Heidelberg’s 142.000.

FROM SUNGIPEK TO TODAY

Gemlik Sungipek – Asım Kocabıyık Campus which U.U. Faculty of Law in, is in the South of the Gemlik Gulf,from Bursa way on the left while entering the Gemlik, between the sea and the Bursa-Yalova highway. It is 35 km far away the center of Bursa Heykel district.

U.U. Faculty of Law, is on the left from Bursa way while entering the Gemlik, which the place you suddenly see the sea and confound. Therefore in accordance with Turkish poet Orhan Veli’s verse it can be said ‘Approaching Gemlik, You'll catch sight of the sea:
Don't be surprised.’ But we must emphasized that you will see the great trees in the Faculty’s garden, not the Faculty of Law, from the highway.

U.U. Gemlik Campus is in the land of the Sungipek Fabric which is a one of the distinguished industry entity from the early Republic term. The name of Sungipek is given by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in 26 November 1935. Groundbreaking of the fabric was done by Ismet Inonu in 28 November 1935 and opened by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in 1 February 1938.(More information and photo click here)In the course of time, because of its poor technology, fabric was closed. During the privatization program the Sungipek acceded to Sumer Holding body and come out in 1997, handed over to Tekel in 1998, again handed over to Uludag University with its 293.000 m2 land by Privatization Administration of Turkey.

Asım Kocabıyık Foundation for Culture and Education (AKKEV) undertakes of construction of the Faculty of Law buildings. The protocol between AKKEV and Uludag University is signed in 2 May 2007.

In the ceremony U.U. Rector Prof. Mustafa Yurtkuran in his speech said;

‘Gemlik comes to an important point in education because of its three chance, first, Sungipek founded by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, second fabric is given to Uludag University, third Asım Kocabıyık claims the Gemlik.’

Also Asım Kocabıyık said:

‘Flying the modernization flag in the area of education which was put by Ataturk seventy years ago and hand over to young generations makes feel us proud. Because of the faculty is Law Faculty also makes feel me proud. Because, only if the law and justice is strong than Turkey can be modern and looks the future with full faith. It is very important to educate the jurists who implement the law truely and just. Improving the education is not only the state’s duty, but also all of us.’

BUILDINGS

Faculty of Law has two buildings, one is Dean Building the other is The Education Building.

Dean Building is the historical Administration Building of Sungipek. It has two floors with 772 m².

Education building is three floor concrete building. Full closed area is 4000 m². In this building, there are classrooms, seminar rooms, library, academics offices, computer laboratory, hearing room and cafeteria.

U.U. Faculty of Law accepts 20 students in its first year. If the numbers going same in the following years total faculty student number will be 80. Faculty of Law buildings closed area is 4772 m². This is mean that, the area per student is 59m². U.U. Faculty of Law owns the most area per student in Turkey maybe in the world. Even if, accepting student every year increase the number 50, then the total number will be 200, this does not change anything. Because then the available area per student will be 23 m2

Campus of the Law Faculty contains the area which has 60-70 years plane-trees, pine and olive trees. U. U. Faculty of Law is in the intersection of nature and sea, blue and green. Faculty of Law buildings are in seaside. While from half of the classrooms and rooms of the Faculty the sea can be seen, from other half the heavenly green nature. A student in the faculty will see the pure sky which the seagull flying, deep blue sea and very green nature. In Gemlik Campus ,olive trees and seagulls, bright blue of the sky and deep blue of the sea are integrated.

U.U. Faculty of Law is in a heavenly place. The buildings of Law Faculty has all facilities that one law faculty may need. If only accepting 20 students per a year take into consideration, U.U. Faculty of Law is the most comfortable faculty in Turkey. It is not be overstatement to say that U.U. Faculty of Law is Turkey’s ‘Boutique Law Faculty’.

In near future, the social facilities and staff housings of Sungipek Fabric will be restored. Also several dormitories are planning to be built. For example a businessman name Ibrahim Bezici is planning to build girls dormitory in the name of his mother which 86 student can be accommodated. As of 2008, dormitory is at the bidding stage. Also Gemlik Municipality is planning to build a dormitory in the Campus. By the way it must be mentioned that U.U. Faculty of Law is receiving help of the Gemlik University Make and Sustenance Association(GUYAS).
